WHAT WE DID
Our GPS lead us to a dirt parking area located at the end of Verde Valley School Road. The lot has limited space, a Red Rock Parking Pass machine, and stinky restrooms. The trailhead started directly across the street from the parking area and was well marked.
We headed down a fairly easy and shaded path about 10 minutes to a 3 trail crossroads.
Before we started the Baldwin Loop Trail we took a quick detour (15-20 minutes) on the Crescent Moon Trail down to the beautiful banks of Oak Creek. This beautiful swimming hole is a great spot to take a dip or just to enjoy the views. *Take a left on the Crescent Moon Trail then your first right down an unmarked path through some tall grass until you reach the creek.
BALDWIN LOOP TRAIL
After retracing our steps back to the trail crossroads we headed out of the flats to the Baldwin Loop Trail. The hike is 3.3 miles round trip, rises over 650 feet in elevation and offers great views of Cathedral Rock and other large red rock formations.
Staying on the loop brought us full circle, back to the dirt parking lot where we started. Being 6 months pregnant at the time, the trail took us about an hour and a half to complete and although it was very tiring for me we very much enjoyed the spectacular red rock mountains.
This is a great trail for beginners or anyone looking for a short, classic Sedona hike with great views!
TIPS FOR HIKING THE BALDWIN LOOP TRAIL
Bring a hat, sunscreen, and lots of water as most of the trail is exposed to the sun
Your shoes will be covered in bright red dirt that is hard to get out so you may want to bring a change of shoes or wipes to clean them off
