WHAT WE DID
When I saw photos of Lucha Libre online I knew I had to surprise Jason for lunch, and boy did he get a kick out of it!
As soon as you step through the door you can’t help but notice the crazy decorations everywhere! From the walls to the menu, even the bathroom is covered in Mexican wrestling paraphernalia. And would the restaurant be complete without TVs that run classic wrestling movies all day long? This place has it all!
If you’re cool (like us) you can sit in the gold Champions Booth, and feel super badass and super awkward at the same time!
The Champion’s Booth comes complete with a server, a private booth with ropes, a bell (to summon your server), large chips and salsa platter so you can try all 8 house-made salsas, and last but not least Lucha masks for your epic photo opp! You also get to skip the line and head straight to the front to be seated at your reserved time.
The kicker is you can only sit in the Champion’s Booth if you make reservations at least 24 hours in advance. You can do so by clicking here, choosing your date, time, and party size (max is 4 ppl) and if your reservation is accepted you will receive a confirmation e-mail with instructions.
Even though we came (mainly) for the atmosphere we obviously wanted to enjoy great Mexican food as well and were not disappointed. The shop is known for its fresh ingredients, huge burritos, including vegetarian choices, and decent prices.
I ordered the Surfin’ California burrito with steak, shrimp, avocado, fresh fries, cheese, pico de gallo, and super secret chipotle sauce. It was bomb!
I couldn’t leave without snapping a couple photos of the bathroom, again there is no inch of this place that isn’t covered in Lucha decor!
And don’t leave without checking out the “Anchorman TV” trash can!
You stay classy, San Diego!
