Slide Rock State Park | Located 7 miles north of Sedona, Arizona, Slide Rock State Park is situated alongside a 43-acre apple orchard and features an 80-foot long natural water slide.
This historic apple orchard and farm was originally owned by Frank L. Pendley after he arrived in Oak Creek Canyon on 1907. Frank also grew garden produce, kept livestock, and in 1933 built rustic cabins to cater to vacationers that are still on site today.

WHAT WE DID
After a 5-10 minute walk from the parking lot, we came to the slide rock swim area entrance and began our descent down to the creek. About a 1/2 mile of Oak Creek is open for swimming, cliff jumping, and wading, as well as the famous slide.
The “slide” itself is an 80 foot-long, 2.5-4 foot wide slippery chute (created by algae) that is worn into sandstone. The ride lasts about 10 seconds, while you sit on your butt and dumps you in a shallow pool at the end.
*The rocks underneath the water’s surface is very slippery so be extra careful when crossing and getting in & out!
Luckily when we went (on a Wednesday at 8:00 am in September) we had the entire place to ourselves for the 1st hour. By the time we left (around 11:00 am) the swim area was slowly starting to fill up. The water was way too cold for us to try the slide but that didn’t stop us from relaxing in the sun and enjoying the sounds of the rushing water.
OTHER THINGS TO DO
The gift shop opens at 10:00 am year round and offers snacks, water, sunscreen, towels, water shoes, and Slide Rock memorabilia.
The park also offers fishing, hiking trails, volleyball courts, wildlife viewing, 15 open-air picnic areas, and 2 restroom buildings with flush toilets, sinks, and drinking fountains, as well as a few exhibits that showcase the Pendley homestead, cabins, farm equipment, and historical information.
